Amanda Small
Amanda Small is in her 5th year at Penn State University in the Architectural Engineering Program. Upon graduation in May 2013, she will have a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering (B.A.E) degree within the Lighting/Electrical option, a minor in Architectural studies and EIT status.
In summer 2010, Amanda participated in the Sede di Roma program and had an internship with MBP, a construction consulting firm where she produced Scopes of Work and developed cost estimates. The next summer she worked at Johnson, Mirmiran, & Thompson in their MEP department as an Electrical intern. She gained experience in conducting electrical surveys and using AutoCAD to develop riser diagrams and floor plans. This past summer, Amanda was an Electrical intern at SmithGroupJJR and improved her Revit skills by developing lighting and power plans, producing panel schedules and creating electrical/fire alarm risers. She also completed LEED online documentation.
Amanda is a teaching assistant this year for AE444: Micro CADD Applications for Buildings and assists students with 3ds Max and Revit. She is also involved in many clubs, such as Illuminating Engineering Society, Society of Women Engineers, and Habitat for Humanity. Amanda joined several of her peers in reviving the USGBC – Penn State Student Chapter and was the Public Relations Chair. She has been involved with the Student Society of Architectural Engineers and their Mentor Program since Fall 2009. This year she holds the position of Yearbook Director. Amanda is also heavily involved with Penn State’s Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON).
