AE 481W/482 Course Reflection

Coming into AE 481W at the beginning of the fall semester I was not looking forward to senior thesis, however after completing my thesis presentation I see how much I have learned in the last 8 months. Thesis requires you to be a self starter, especially in the spring semester. There is not anybody to make sure you are doing your work, and you are free to work as much or as little as you choose. I have learned a great deal about making priorities when it comes to what work needs to be completed. Thesis was good preparation for the real world in which you are given a task to complete and a dealine, and that’s it. I also further developed some skills that will be important in the real world, such as communicating with professionals you have never met, and learning how to ask for help as well as get what you need from people who are busy with their own work. Overall, senior thesis was a positive experience and I am pleased with my performance and am happy with what I have gotten out of it.

CPEP & Discussion Board Reflection

This was the first time I have made a website myself. Although most of it was just filling in a template I think I have learned enough that in the future making a website from scratch is attainable for me. I think the CPEP websites have been a great tool for delivering information to people across the country. Several of my family members have been able to read my thesis, and that would have proven difficult if not for my CPEP website. The discussion board was also an effective tool that I utilized during thesis. Because several industry members subscribe, I was able to send out surveys through the discussion board that were used in my thesis research. I think this is a great tool for the students and my only recommendation would be to get even more industry people on board to help students through this medium.
