Welcome to Josh Progar's Senior Thesis Biography |
|
Joshua Progar is currently in his 5th year of study in the Architectural Engineering Program at Penn State University. In December 2012, he will graduate with an Integrated Bachelor/Master of Architectural Engineering degree, with a focus in structural systems. Josh passed the FE exam this past May and will be eligible for Engineer in Training (EIT) status upon graduation.
He also was inducted into the Architectural Engineering Honors Society Phi Alpha Epsilon in April.
Josh has a strong interest in the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) method using BIM processes and technologies. During the 2011 spring semester, Josh was chosen to enroll in an interdisciplinary BIM studio, an award winning, innovative studio class that is focused on the collaborative effort of the four major architectural engineering disciplines (Construction Management, Lighting/Electrical, Mechanical and Structural) along with an architect and landscape architect. This studio forced students to learn the capabilities of cutting edge BIM software and IPD design that forced compromise for the enrichment of the overall project design.
Throughout his college career, Josh has accumulated four years of internship experience working on both the design and construction side of the industry. During the past two summers, Josh participated in a construction management internship with Alexander Building Construction Co. in State College, where he worked to help develop their Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes and documentation. Post-graduation, he hopes to find a full-time position with a structural or construction management firm where he would like to focus on the progression of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies and their role in the development of an IPD method within the industry.
Outside of academics, Josh is a member of multiple professional and student organizations at Penn State including the Penn State Chapter of the Architectural Engineering Institute (Student Society of Architectural Engineers - SSAE) and The Student Chapter of the Partnership for Achieving Construction Excellence (S:PACE). Josh also enjoys playing intramural sport, where he has won 7 different titles, along with music and travel.

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) is a web‐based project and information center. It
contains material produced for a year‐long Senior Thesis class. Its purpose, in addition to providing
central storage of individual assignments, is to foster communication and collaboration between
student, faculty consultant, course instructors, and industry consultants. This website is dedicated to
the research and analysis conducted via guidelines provided by the Department of Architectural
Engineering. For an explanation of this capstone design course and its requirements click here. |

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work-in-progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of this BIM/IPD group. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design. |
