Asphalt Field Tech Review & Certification

This Review & Certification Course is not a training course. It is a review for technicians directly involved with asphalt pavement construction, testing and inspection. A working knowledge of basic pavement construction principles and procedures is necessary.

REQUIRED BEFORE APPLYING: Obtain a Penn State User ID (with several letters and numbers) IF you do not already have a Penn State Account. This is NOT your NECEPT ID#.


  1. Visit https://accounts.psu.edu, select CREATE MY ACCOUNT and enter the required information IF you do not already have a Penn State Account. The process is simple and you should receive an email with your User ID quickly.


  2. Required: Add your User ID (several letters and numbers) to your application.


  3. Keep this information. It will be required to log into Canvas for the online course manual, materials, and exam as well as all asphalt retests.

Online Courses are three (3) non-consecutive days. Day 1 and Day 2 are lectures using Zoom. Day 3 is a certification exam through PSU’s Canvas system that requires monitoring through Zoom to receive credit for your score. No mobile devices such as iPads or cell phones since they cannot connect to the exam. A desktop or laptop with a webcam will be needed.

In-Person Courses are three (3) consecutive days and may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment OR changed to online courses due to future safety guidelines regarding COVID.

The Field Technician Program Handout Manual will be needed during your course and open book exam. The Manual, Course Videos, Practice and Example Problems; and a Practice Quiz will be available on the NECEPT website and in Canvas prior to the course. For online courses, a printed copy of the manual is available to applicants who have been accepted by an authorized PennDOT/PTC Representative if requested by phone NLT 3 weeks prior to the course. For in-person courses, a printed copy of the manual cannot be mailed.

If Quantity is blank and cannot be selected, the course is full and no further registrations are accepted.

Only one course number can be selected in each order. Multiple people can be registered for the same course.

Quantity MUST equal the number of people registering in this order.
