Isolation joints permit horizontal and vertical movements between abutting faces of the slab and fixed parts of a structure.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Contraction joints provide for horizontal movement in the plane of a slab or wall and induce controlled cracking caused by drying shrinkage.
