Costs and Benefits of Providing Green Schools
Goals
The goal of this research is to provide substantial evidence that will support the notion that a failure to invest in green technologies is not financially
responsible for school systems. The reduction in life-cycle cost as well as the environmental benefits of “going green” will be illustrated throughout this form of documentation. This research outlines the rationale behind why green school design provides a cost-effective way to enhance student learning.
Analysis 1
Green Roof Design
Goals
The goal of this analysis is to produce and design my own system of green construction. After design, feasibility concerns will be addressed and effeciency conclusions will be made. More specifically, the benefits of which this type of construction offers to students, teachers, and the environment will be documented. Evaluation of the additive design will also prove to illustrate if a structural redesign will be in order. A final cost comparison, between the new and old design, will then be used to compare upfront cost discrepancies.
Analysis 2
Alternate Window Selection
Goals
The goal of this analysis is to determine the benefits that natural daylighting and more environmentally friendly window selections have -on increased student performance in schools. I will then select a more "green" window, which has the same SF cost , as the one used in my thesis building. After selection, a comparison will illustrate why a more envrionmentally beneficial product does not always have to sacrifice increased costs.
