The majority of the reseach that was preformed while investigating 4D technology was mainly throught the use of survey. The survey was designed to analyze both ends of the industry's use of 4D on their projects. Questions were tailored to companies that do use 4D modeling regularly as well as companies that know very little about 4D modeling. The data was used more as mini-case studies rather than a numerical representation of the data collected.
Other reseach included three papers that were written about the use of 4D modeling in preconstruction. They provided a small foundation as to how 4D is being devloped and used over the past few years and where it might go. Combined with the surveys the reseach determined where 4D will go in the next few years and why many companies are not using 4D modeling on their own projects.
