Technical Assignment 1

The scope of this structural technical report includes a description of the physical conditions within 110 Third Avenue including information regarding design concepts and loading. It will give an overview of the general floor framing, structural slabs, lateral resisting system, foundation system, bracing elements, expansion joints, and support for the façade of the building. A preliminary analysis of the structural elements of 110 Third Avenue is also included within the report. These analyses include wind and seismic calculations accompanied by schematics, and a spot-check of typical floor framing elements in gravity load areas.

  • Technical Assignment 2

This technical report includes a study and comparison of four different alternative floor framing systems for 110 Third Avenue. Each system is compared and contrasted to the existing system. Finally, conclusions are drawn to determine which systems are plausible alternatives and which ones should be disregarded in the future.

  • Technical Assignment 3

This technical report includes an analysis of lateral load cases on 110 Third Avenue using ETABS. The results of the computer model are compared to another distribution of forces done in Excel. Finally, the results of each program's analysis are compared to ASCE7-02 criteria for story drift and overturning moment. ALso included is a hand check on a lateral resisting element and evaluation of the lateral resisting system employed by the designers.
