Blake R. Herrschaft biography
Blake Herrschaft is a fifth year Architectural Engineering student at
The Pennsylvania State University. He is specializing in Building Mechanical
Systems Design and expects to graduate with a Bachelor of Architectural
Engineering in May 2006. Blake’s main focuses in mechanical design
are sustainable building systems, energy savings technologies, and buildings
designed with US Green Building Council LEED standards in mind. He has spent
two summers as a mechanical engineering intern at Wayne Automation in Norristown,
PA working on CAD drafting and design work.
Blake’s course work has included HVAC system design, steel structural
design, concrete structural design, architectural design, lighting and electrical
system design, AutoCAD drafting in two and three dimensions, VIZ rendering,
solar engineering, and classes in various other subject areas. He plans
to take a combined heat and power course as well as an indoor air quality
course in the spring prior to graduation. With extracurricular activities
including, Engineers for a Sustainable World, the Penn State snowboard club,
the Penn State ski club, ASHRAE, SSAE, and a number of intramural sports;
Blake has kept involved in activities both in and out of the field of Architectural
Engineering. He also has spent two years as an engineering mentor, teaching
incoming freshman what to expect during their time at Penn State.
One of his most interesting activities was working on an anaerobic digester
design initiative with in conjunction with students at The University of
Technology in Jamaica. This showed Blake the approaches necessary in working
on projects in countries with different lifestyles, cultures, and standards
of living than our own.
He recently passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and plans to work
toward his Professional Engineering license early in his post-graduate career.
Blake is excited to finish his coursework and attain his degree so that
he can start making a difference working in the field of mechanical systems
design
