Personal Biography

Resume (.pdf)

Growing up outside Baltimore, Joseph found himself exploring residential construction sites beginning in elementary school. After his interests in building design and construction developed during middle and high school, he left Maryland for Penn State to pursue a degree in Architecture. It wasn’t long before Joseph realized he enjoyed drawing moment diagrams and analyzing steel frames more than drawing nudes and analyzing artwork. He soon made the switch to Architectural Engineering with an intent to study Structures.

The next three years of study culminated in acceptance into the ABET Accredited integrated Bachelor and Master of Architectural Engineering Program, an eye-opening four months studying Civil Engineering and Architecture at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, and the Outstanding Fourth Year Structural Student award.

Currently, Joseph is in his ninth semester, planning to graduate in May 2006. From rigorous coursework and a Summer 2005 internship with Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern in Washington, DC, he has gained skills in designing steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures using various computer programs, in reviewing and creating construction documents, and in collaborating with other disciplines in building design.

In addition to his classes, Joseph now enjoys his roles as Captain of the Penn State Crew Lightweight Men’s team, Secretary for the National Association of Homebuilders, and as a Scholar for the Schreyer Honors College, roles which continually show him the importance of both hard work and a good time.
