     Even as a young child with his Lego sets, Joseph displayed both a sense of creativity and a natural curiosity for the methods of design and building. After graduating from Holy Ghost Preparatory School in Bensalem, PA, Joseph began his studies at The Pennsylvania State University in 2001. He was originally drawn to major in Architecture due to his love of sketching and interest in history. However, with an equal proficiency in mathematics and physics, Joseph parlayed his core interest in design into enrollment in the Architectural Engineering field, with a concentration on structural design. He maintains a sense of pride in the fact that he will still graduate early despite his early change of majors, a result of his success on a number of Advanced Placement tests from high school.

     Joseph has begun his fifth and final year at Penn State, intent on graduating in May 2006 with both his Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Architectural Engineering. Joseph has been fortunate enough to be recognized for his diligence at PSU with several awards, most notably the Robert J. McNamara Scholarship in 2004 and the Baker Ingram Scholarship in 2005, both awarded by the PSU AE department. He has benefited from industry experience with two internships in central Philadelphia. In the summer of 2004, Joseph worked at Ballinger performing AutoCAD work for their Electrical department. Most recently, in the summer of 2005, he worked in O’Donnell & Naccarato’s Structural department, drawing more extensively with AutoCAD and checking structural shop drawings.

Joseph looks forward to the challenges awaiting him in this Senior Thesis Project, a rite of passage that will undoubtedly confirm the adage, “Whatever doesn’t kill me can only make me stronger.”
