AE 481W/482 Course Reflection

This joint venture of both classes provided me with further knowledge of building design and professionalism. In the fall, I was introduced to preparing technical reports and creating a functional online portfolio. The spring semester allowed me to develop a better understanding of structure analysis and in depth research. This sequence of events aided me in producing a final report that has incorporated all the material that was presented in my AE academic career.

The fall semester (AE 481W) allowed me to analyze the existing structure and reproduce the design. This process provided me with a better understanding of concrete floor and column design along with post-tensioning systems. I chose to design a structural steel system as my proposal. By selecting this material I enhanced my understanding of steel design and construction (AE 482). In the conclusion of completing both semesters I am able to graduate with concrete and steel design fresh in my mind.

CPEP & Discussion Board Reflection

The Department Architectural Engineering provides each discipline with a discussion board to allow students to interact with passed AE graudates and practicing engineers. I felt this was a great tool for students to easily contact professionals for advise. I frequently used the discussion board for technical insight as well as other useful information.
