A Look into the Life of Joe Sharkey

Joe is a 5th year senior at the Pennsylvania State University majoring in Architectural Engineering with a focus on structures.  He was born in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania to Joseph and Beverly Sharkey and is the oldest in his family with five younger siblings.
Currently Joe is part of the Integrated Master/Bachelor program and is expected to graduate in December of 2007.  Since elementary school Joe has been interested and intrigued by all types of structures and how they work.  Being also interested in Architecture, the choice of becoming an Architectural Engineer came naturally.
For the past three summers Joe has had the opportunity of interning at two different companies.  During the summers of 2004 and 2005 he worked at QproQ Engineering in Wilkes-Barre, PA.  Here he gained extensive knowledge in AutoCAD and performed load takedowns.  In the summer of 2006 he worked with Cagley & Associates in Rockville, MD where he performed load take downs and designed columns, beams, and spread footings.  Both internships were extremely valuable and reassured him that he had made the correct career choice.
In Joes’s free time, what’s left after school work, he enjoys spending time with friends, playing guitar, and playing intramural softball and football.  He is also the social chair of the Structural Engineers Association at PSU.
