Thesis Proposal

Updated Thesis Proposal

In the Spring Semester I will be studying a number of issues related to the High Rise. I will investigate a value enginered solution for the existing two way flat plate system. I will attempt to decrease the floor slab thickness, by utilizing edge beams at key locations as well as investigate the use of lightweight concrete as a viable alternative to NWC for the floor slabs. The shear walls will also be investigated and redesigned to accomodate these changes.

For my breadth studies I will be evaluating the performance of the existing building envelope and proposing an alternate system with better thermal performance. This will include a cost and feasability comparison. A number of the 69 total LEED criterion will be investigated and their viability as options will be evaluated.  This study will look at which requirements are already met as well as which options will be the most cost effective to implement.
