AE 481/482 Reflection

During the fall '05 semester I spent most of my time working on the techical assignments with consideration to my building. These included existing site layout, site & project flow, construction sequence, project costs, schedule, etc. These studies provided me with useful information and a better understanding of the project for my following course work, especially when developing my proposal.

When performing the proposed analysis on my project I encountered many additional issues that I had not previously considered. These were both positive and negative, but in each case they were worked through with the help of the AE Faculty and the entire project team.

Perhaps the greatest benefit I had on my side through the entire course was the fact that I was able to continue my internship on the project with the construction manager, Gilbane Building Company, the entire way through each semester. This enabled me to interact one-on-one with many industry porfessionals when considering all aspects of my research. The contacts that I was able to make through my on-site internship proved to be priceless.

In the end I am proud of the work I have performed for my senior thesis. Although, it could not have been done without all of the industry and faculty helped I recieved. In addition, I feel the amount that I have grown as a person and as a professional through the last five years is directly attributed to the PSU AE program.

CPEP & Discussion Board Reflection

The CPEP website I feel was a great interactive way to communicate with the AE Faculty for grading purposes, etc. Also, it saves the students a lot of printing and paper fees when turning in these reports throught the two semesters. I feel that it is a good interactive tool for learning and communicating, despite earlier struggles. Additionally, it is a great way for industry members to be able to view your work so that they can actually see what a PSU AE graduate can do.

I rarely used the discussion board myself, although when used it was extremely effective. This was mainly due to the position I was in through my internship. I was able to contact any project team member relatively easily anytime necessary.
