Robert's Resume
Since entering Penn State University in the fall of 2001 and majoring in Architectural Engineering, Robert has had a wide variety of work experiences. He worked for an Architect throughout his high school career and became interested in the design field of the building industry. Robert continued to expand on this architectural background while at this Charles Town firm, Architecture 2000, over the next two summers, gaining experience in site visits and the architectural side of the industry.
Over the last two summers he developed structural skills by working for Cates Engineering in Centreville, VA. At this firm, he delved into the design of complete buildings, designing all of the upper framing levels, while working directly under a PE. He also designed retaining walls, steel beams, and the foundation for residential buildings. He was also responsible for reviewing and correcting shop drawings, managing two draftsmen, and coordinating projects with the architect. During his time there he also conducted punchlist inspections of partially completed buildings, confirmed framing and rebar layouts, and supervised a residential site inspection. Back at school, Robert was worked in the AE research lab assisting in wind loading experiments and with code research. Throughout his time at Penn State, Robert utilized his mathematical and problem solving skills in his study of architectural engineering. Studying the structures option, he has done very well in his classes, works well in teams, and often helps many of his classmates with the challenging assignments. Robert also had the great opportunity to study abroad at Leeds University in England and was able to get a uniquely comparative perspective of the US building industry. While at school, Robert has had many experiences helping to develope him into a well-rounded person and as an engineer. Robert has been elected the president of the Structural Engineers Association (SEA), as well as, being a member of the Student Society of Architectural Engineers (SSAE), Tau Beta Pi (The Engineering Honor Society), and Phi Alpha Epsilon (The Architectural Engineering Honors Society). He also has been active in Campus Crusade for Christ and his local and home church. Finally, Robert serves as an Architectural Engineering Envoy for the Penn State AE program.
