Thesis Proposal

Executive Summary

During the 2007 Spring Semester, I will be studying and researching several aspects of Boston University's Arena and Recreation Center building systems. Included in my analysis, will be the redesign of the lighting system in four different spaces, an electrical and mechanical system rework as well as a cost comparison study between the existing and new system.

Depth Work

The depth work will include the lighting redesign for the executive club room, four court gymnasium, main lobby, and exterior plaza. The design will focus on the main lighting concepts such as energy, motion, life, pride, and youth. There will also be a study of the electrical system redesign in several of the areas as well as looking into more energy efficient transformers.

Breadth Work

The breadth work will include an analysis of the mechanical system in the pool areas of the Recreation Center and creating a more comfortable environment for those using the space. Upon completetion of the system's redesign, I will perform a cost analysis in order to see if the new design is cost beneficial for the client.
