Ben Burgoyne

Ben Burgoyne is a fifth year Architectural Engineering student at the Pennsylvania State University focusing on building mechanical systems. He plans on completing a Batchelor of Architectural Engineering Degree and a Master of Architectural Engineering Degree in the Fall of 2007.

Ben is excited about this course of study and is eager to take advantage of opportunities it affords him. He has spent a semester abroad at the University of Leeds in England, studying under their comparable program and experiencing the culture. Additionally, he enjoyed summer interning with two engineering firms. One summer was spent on-site as a project engineer with Southland Industries, assisting the construction management team on the mechanical systems of the White Memorial Medical Center jobsite in Los Angeles, CA. Another summer found him in Atlanta, GA with Newcomb & Boyd, assisting with the design of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems of various commercial projects.

Ben has enjoyed other opportunities at Penn State, including singing with the Glee Club, expanding his language abilities with the German Club, and rowing with the Penn State Crew Club. He is currently the president of the Crew Club, averaging 90+ members, where he oversees the activities, finances, and other logistics that keep the club running.

Before Penn State, Ben spent two years serving a church mission in northeast Germany, including Berlin. While gaining fluency in the German language, he had the privilege of integrating himself with the people and culture of that area of the world. This counts as one of the defining experiences in Ben’s life, making a large contribution to personal attributes such as communicating effectively, having a positive attitude, being able to adjust to new situations, and keeping a good work ethic.
