Architecture

The expansion project consists of a three section addition, A, B and C.  Area A, which faces  I-78, is the largest section consisting of 7 occupied floors, the first floor being a lobby and reception area and floors 2-7 being patient beds with a mechanical penthouse on the roof.  Area B is called the “knuckle” and transitions area A and C with 4 elevators housed within it.  Area C is a 5 story addition that is still not specified what its use is, but pointed in the direction of a burn trauma wing.

The building is a steel frame structure with joists ranging from W16x26 to W21x57 typical and girders ranging from W24x76 and W24x103 typical.  The building enclosure consists mainly of precast concrete panels and 2 types of metal panels surrounding the windows.  Insulated metal siding is used to enclose the mechanical penthouse.  Roof deck is 1-1/2” 22 gauge wide rib type ‘B’ galvanized deck.
