Joshua R. Thompson

From a young age, Josh was always fascinated by Construction and Architecture. Josh’s passion to build was obvious at an early age with tools already in hand. Actual experiences on construction sites gave him the chance at a young age to use construction skills to express his interest in building.
His aptitude at designing and building began to manifest itself in high school when as electives he chose drafting and CAD classes.  As part of drafting and CAD classes in high school, he had the opportunity to participate in a field trip to Penn State’s Engineering Department.  It was obvious from that day on that Penn State’s Architectural Engineering Program was the perfect fit for Josh’s interests and talents.
Josh Thompson is currently working towards his Bachelor of Architectural Engineering Degree with concentration in Construction Management at The Pennsylvania State University. Josh’s strong interest in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction led him to study abroad for a semester in Rome, Italy at the end of his junior year. It was in Rome that he was able to further broaden his appreciation for Architecture, Aesthetics, and Historical Construction Methods. He traveled to cities and architectural sites such as Florence,Venice Pompeii, and Paestum across Italy to experience and study a culture rich in architectural history. Upon completion of this overseas program, Josh obtained a minor in Architecture.

Every summer, beginning with freshman year, Josh worked on various construction projects for The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company and Holder Construction Company. Josh’s work for The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company took him to Baltimore and Bridgewater, New Jersey to work on commericial tenant fit out projects.  Josh recently completed an internship with Holder Construction Company in Ashburn Virginia during the summer of 2006 where he performed various Construction Management tasks in the construction of a large-scale data center. Both of these internship opportunities proved to be invaluable experiences that Josh will carry over as he begins his career.

Josh has completed two training courses in preparation for the U.S.G.B.C. L.E.E.D Professional Accreditation Exam which he plans to take shortly after entering the industry next summer.  Josh plans to graduate from The Penn State University with a B.A.E. in May 2006.
