Student Bio - Kha N. Dang

Kha N. Dang is a fifth year Architectural Engineering student at The Pennsylvania State University. He is currently pursing his Bachelor of Architectural Engineering emphasizing in Lighting and Electrical design. Kha is intended to graduate in May of 2007 with his Engineer in Training (E.I.T) certification and Lighting Certify (LC) Intern status.

In the summer of 2005, Kha was able to participate in the study abroad program in Rome, Italy. Here, he gained a greater appreciation of architectural design and details. The program enabled him to understand how the master builders of that era built structures with the use of light and shadow.

An Internship at Sean O’Connor Associates has increased Kha’s knowledge of lighting design and lighting fixture construction. During his internship, he was able to further understand the process and hierarchy of lighting design and team collaboration. Kha was entrusted with the design of prototype lighting fixtures for Tech Lighting and several small scale lighting designs. While at Sean O’Connor Associates, he redesigned the company website and reinvented new lighting symbols for easier legibility of Lighting drawings.

Kha Dang is active in professional lighting associations as a student member. He has recently attended the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) East Central Regional Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Kha was given the opportunity to attend the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Annual Conference by receiving a travel award by the IALD Student Trust Committee. At the conference, he was awarded a prize in the LightPlay activity (Landscaping Lighting Design Competition).
