About Lauren Wilke

Resume (.pdf)

Lauren is a 5th year senior at Penn State and will be completing both a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in Architectural Engineering in May 2007.  She participated in the Leeds, England study abroad program in Fall 2005, during which time she was exposed to the architecture and design methods of numerous European countries.  In addition to this study and typical structural coursework, Lauren has also completed (or is in the process of completing) specialized courses in the areas of Historic Preservation, Building Failures, Romanesque and Gothic design, Masonic design, Wood design, Steel Connection design, Prestressed Concrete design, Earthquake Engineering, and Modern Structures.

Lauren's work history in the field of structures reaches back to her first high school job, where she spent 3 years designing and fabricating glass for architectural and structural installations at Rudy's Art Glass Studio in York, PA.  Most recently, Lauren spent her time in summer 2006 with C.S. Davidson Inc. as in intern in building structural design, working on both existing buildings and new construction.  The summer of 2005, Lauren learned the intricacies of structural concrete design at High Concrete Structures Inc. in Denver, PA.  This training prepared her well for future work in concrete design, supplementing her British concrete coursework.  Summer 2004 brought her the opportunity to work with Forest Homes Redevelopment of Lancaster County and an exposure to home-building, take-offs, and estimating.

Outside of her engineering work, Lauren keeps herself busy almost constantly.  She has acted as Vice-President, THON Chair, and THON Adopt-A-Family Chair of the Student Society of Architectural Engineers (SSAE), the Philanthropic Chair and THON Chair of the Penn State Structural Engineer's Association (SEA), and a member of the Student Conference Committee of the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI).  THON is the largest student run philanthropy in the world, and supports families in their fights against childhood cancer, and she has participated aspects of THON since her first year at Penn State in multiple chair positions and through donations to Lock of Love. The highlight of her involvement with THON was in the acceptance of SSAE in the Adopt-A-Family Program where she has had the opportunity to work one-on-one with the Fey family of Reading, Pennsylvania. In February of 2007, Lauren successfully particiapated as a dancer in THON, spending more than 62 hours awake and 46 hours without sitting. Lauren was also a rower for Penn State's Crew Team for 3 years, through which she attended daily 5AM practices and competitions at the national level.

Following graduation, Lauren has accepted a position at Paragon Structural Design, Inc in Phoenix, Arizona.
