Antonio DeSantis Verne grew up in rural Brockway, Pennsylvania as a LEGO and erector set enthusiast. It was when he and his family moved to Bethalto, Illinois, a suburb of St. Louis, and then later to Toledo, Ohio that his passion for structures and architecture was truly discovered. He decided that Architectural Engineering at Penn State would be the perfect fit. In 2003 he graduated from Anthony Wayne High School with honors. In May 2008 he will graduate from Penn State with an Integrated Bachelor and Master of Architectural Engineering degree with emphasis in structural engineering.
During his career at Penn State, Antonio has taken great steps to broaden his already wide horizon. He spent two months studying architecture and classical analysis methods in Italy. On-site lectures held at the Roman Forum and Pantheon were very unique experiences in his life. Antonio is also active within the AE Department. He is a student Envoy, a group that leads prospective students around the department, and he is the undergraduate representative on the AE Department Head Search Committee. Finally, Antonio has been a teaching assistant and teaching intern for two AE courses, one an introductory environmental systems course, and the other a steel design course. This experience in teaching has given him the ability to convey his ideas in a more simplistic, direct manner which will be advantageous in the workplace.
Antonio has interned with two engineering firms. He was an intern for two summers at SSOE, Inc. headquartered in Toledo, Ohio. This past summer he worked for Atlantic Engineering Services in Pittsburgh, PA. Through these internships he has worked on a multitude of projects varying in size with both computer aided design and traditional hand calculated design. In the spring of 2007 Antonio passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam, and he plans to work towards his Professional Engineering registration.
In his free time, Antonio is an avid golfer and was a four year varsity member during high school. As a senior he finished top five in the Northern Lakes League and helped lead Anthony Wayne to the State Championships where they placed 14th. He also enjoys traveling and has been to Australia, Canada, Europe, and in December will be traveling to the Caribbean with his family.
Antonio accepted a job with Ruby+Associates and plans to start on May 27, 2008.
