Anthony Dente is currently finishing the five year architectural engineering program at The Pennsylvania State University. Upon graduation in May 2008, he will receive a B.A.E. with a structural focus and minor in architectural studies. Anthony became a LEED Acredited Profesional in October 07' and is currently awaiting the result of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam that was taken later that month.
For two consecutive summers Anthony worked a labor position with L.S. Fiore Construction, and the summer of 2007 was spent in the San Francisco Bay area at a structural engineering internship with Weir/Andrewson and Associates. While at this position he, with assistance of the senior engineers, designed, calculated, and produced full sets of drawings in both AutoCAD and Revit for small scale residential new construction and remodels.
Anthony's true passion lies in environmentally sustaining aspects of personal, social, and professional life. Now serving his second term as the president of The Engineers for a Sustainable World, he does all that he can to keep the philosophy of sustainability abreast in every aspect of his life and works to promote the extension of this philosophy throughout all of society through various outreach endeavors and speeches. Anthony was one of the speakers at a dedication ceremony for a solar tracker system set up at Penn State’s Center for Sustainability and he is also scheduled as the Keynote speaker for a documentary screening put on by KEEN Footwear to introduce a nationwide competition to students at Penn State in October.
As a structural engineer Anthony is very motivated about new advances in age-old structural technologies such as strawbale, rammed earth, and cob. Anthony had the opportunity to discuss the advancement of these technologies with engineers leading the way in this area during his time spent on the West Coast this summer. He is looking forward to dedicating the first part of his career to similar work as he prepares to receive his PE License.
Anthony considers traveling to be an intricate part of his education as well. From his multiple trips and travels to Northern Europe, his cross country drive, and his time spent in Costa Rica he finds it rather important to experience how other cultures live and build to remind ourselves there are more ways than just the “American way”. He is also an avid cave lover and spelunker, and while not in cave enjoys spending his time rock climbing and pursuing other outdoor adventures.
