Architecture:
Design and Functional Components:
- The room distributions throughout the office/ laboratory building are split between office and laboratory spaces on each floor. The building is facilitated with an ample storage space in the rear of the building.
- The exterior design of the building is a stone and brick façade through precast concrete panels. The molds for the panels were created to utilize a precast exterior system while still obtaining a desirable façade. All of the windows are tinted for discretion and laboratory purposes.
- The Crocker West Building is seeking LEED accreditation.
Major National Model Codes: IBC 2006, IPC 2006, IEC 2006, IFC 2006, IMC 2006
Zoning: IRD – Light Industry, R & D
Historical Requirements: None
Building Enclosure:
Building Facades:
- The exterior walls of the building are 9-1/2” and 12-1/2” thick pre-cast insulated panels. The panels are constructed with 2-1/2” rigid insulation between two concrete panels. The exterior panels have been specifically molded to contain brick and stone veneer. The joints between each panel are filled with a grout and compression backer rod then closed on the exterior with a urethane caulk.
- The windows of the building are 4’-3/8” x 8’-8” and 4’-3/8” x 5’-0” Pella windows with low E, tinted glass and a U value of 0.38.
- The curtain wall for the building is a 24’-6” high arc that is positioned at the entryway to the building. Curtain wall is constructed with aluminum framing and components. Glass is specified as PPG Solarban 60 (2) Clear which has a low E value and a U value of 0.28.
Roofing:
- Flat roofing system consisting of TPO roofing membrane, 60 mil EPDM roofing, and 4”rigid polyisocyanurate insulation. The roofing system is applied on a 2” concrete topping and an 8” hollow core concrete plank roof.
Sustainability Features:
- A green roof system has been implemented on a section of the warehouse roof; this system was included for the building to gain LEED accreditation.
- A grey water system has been integrated into the building. The system includes a 12’ x 12’ x 132’ cistern that collects all the roof drainage.
