Thesis Reflection

One of the greatest aspects of thesis is that it encouraged me to work independently.  I was able to set my own schedule, facilitate my own research, and mediate between professionals and professors to put together a good project.  From the initial research in the fall, to the final study in the spring, the entire process was beneficial to both my academic and professional career.

Specifically, I gained a deeper understanding between design and cost of sustainable mechanical designs.  While sustainability is a definite goal of our industry, it can be costly, even if it does offer savings or safety to the environment.  By doing a life cycle analysis and payback, a true cost of these options can be found.  Overall, my goal in the future is to find sustainable solutions with affordable costs and minimal environmental impacts.

CPEP Reflection

The CPEP website was a great addition to the thesis process.  I was able to share my thesis progress with my family, friends, professionals, and the owners of the Hershey Press Building.  I also learned how to create websites, which could be a valuable skill to know in the future.  Overall, I am glad that I will be able to access my thesis from the site for years to come, as it will show the capstone project of my college career.
