STRUCTURAL OPTION
Contact Katie:
Katie Ritter is currently in her fifth year at The Pennsylvania State University studying architectural engineering, with a structural emphasis. Ms. Ritter’s interests in architecture, combined with her desire to understand the intricate systems in buildings is what led her to pursue this degree. She will be graduating in December 2009 with an Integrated Bachelor and Master of Architectural Engineering degree. At that time, she will also be entering Engineer-In-Training (EIT) status, having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam in the spring of 2008. Upon graduation, she hopes to join a structural engineering firm that will challenge her as she works toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer.
Ms. Ritter has had the unique opportunity of experiencing multiple aspects of the construction industry through internships. For two summers she worked in construction management with The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. This perspective gave her an appreciation for the trades and those managing the construction. This past summer, she worked for Holbert Apple Associates, where she gained practical experience in structural design.
Ms. Ritter is an active member of the Society of Women Engineers, a referee for Penn State’s Intramural Soccer program, and currently serves as Corresponding Secretary for Tau Beta Pi, an elite engineering honor society. In her free time, she enjoys designing houses, and recently designed a new home for her grandmother after fire destroyed hers in January 2007. She looks forward to working closely with the design community and advancing complex projects from initial concepts to ones that truly “work.”
