Michael Lombardi

Michael Lombardi will graduate from The Pennsylvania State University in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree. His diverse education includes coursework in engineering, architecture, theatrical lighting, cognitive perception and language. During the summer of 2005, Michael studied in Rome, Italy and completed a minor in architecture.

Guided throughout his childhood by his grandfather, a practicing architect, and his mother, an artist in Japanese watercolor, Michael has always loved to draw. His choice to study architectural engineering and specialize in lighting design affirmed his commitment to both the technical and aesthetic aspects of building design.

Michael is the national president for the Architectural Engineering Institute of America, secretary for Penn State’s Student Society of Architectural Engineers, and an involved member of the Illumination Engineering Society.  He is also teaching assistant for AE 444, a course on three dimensional CAD and computer rendering.

In the summer of 2006, Michael completed an internship in New York City with Fisher Marantz Stone, a creative firm of architectural lighting designers.  Actively participating in projects ranging from high end residential to supertall structures, his experience includes sketching/concept development, computer calculations and rendering, construction documentation, and on-sight project coordination.

In June 2006, Michael won first place in the IESNA Howard Brandston Student Lighting Design Competition.  He also received honorable mention in the 2006 IESNA “Design with Light” competition.

When not occupied with work and school, Michael enjoys downhill skiing, water skiing and tennis as well as creative pursuits including reading, writing and sketching.

In June 2007 Michael will relocate to Manhattan permanently and take on a full-time position at Fisher Marantz Stone as lighting designer.

Michael has taken and passed the 2006 LC exam and gained "Intern LC " status. He also plans to become LEED certified within his first year of professional work.
