AE 481W/482 Course Reflection

The Senior Thesis experience was unlike any other I previously had throughout my scholastic career. It gave me the opportunity to grow personally as aspiring engineer refining my technical knowledge and applying it to an independent design. In the Fall semester, AE 481W offered a level of guidance with a series of technical assignments each focusing on specific structural systems or areas of analysis. Through these reports I became more familiar with the existing building and was introduced to post-tensioned concrete flat plate and integrated lateral system design.

The Spring semester, AE 482, was an independent venture into structural design. It was structured differently from the Fall and required students to maintain an individual schedule to complete the work. The experience taught me the value of time managment between balancing work and utilzing the free time I had for myself. I also had a chance to learn some computer analysis programs such as ADOSS and ETABs. I feel the Senior Thesis was a great educational experience and better prepared me for a professional career.

CPEP & Discussion Board Reflection

The CPEP website was an excellent way to organize all the work done on my thesis project throughout both semesters. I found the templete extremely helpful when initially designing and maintianing the CPEP website, however adding personal touches to the site was a great learning experience in web design. The discussion board is an innovative way for students to reach out to profesionals. Every question submitted was often answered more than once within the same day. These are great tools for the students and will only improve the quality of the Senior Thesis experience for years to come.
