    Architecture

    Sallie Mae's architecture focuses on the idea of Sallie Mae providing and encouraging higher education. The office consists of 9 floors above grade and 5 parking levels below grade. Sallie Mae's new headquarters will be able to support 700 employees with its 207,000 SF of office space. The architect behind Sallie Mae was Boggs & Partners. And the main attraction of the building is the symbolic glass staircase on the outside of the building which is a metaphor to the "classic stairway to learning."

    Building envelope

    The building envelope consists of a precast and glass facade. The roof is a January 22, 2006ne, flashing membrane and roof ballast.

    Electrical

    The emergency generator is a four-cycle, diesel power unit producing 450KW/562.5 KVA @ .8 P.F. of continuous standby power at 277/480 volts.

    Lighting

    The Lighting fixtures are mostly fluorescent, with few metal halides, and run on 277/480 voltage.

    Mechanical

    There are a series oJanuary 22, 2006 heating coils. The eighth floor requires the most amount of cooling capacity due to the partial roof that the penthouse doesn't cover.

    Structural

    The structural system is consisting of steel tower framing, which begins on grade, on top of a five level deep parking structure. The foundations are individual footings. The spans in the parking structure are primarily 28' each way. For the steel framing spans reach up to 40'. The below grade levels consist of shear walls and concrete columns. Then above grade there is steel tower framing with 6 braced frames to resist story deflection.

    Fire Protection

    Strom primary drainage is calculated at 3.25" per hour, 100-Year, 1-Hour Storm. Fire Dept. Connection is 750 gpm with 200 psi supply pressure.

    Transportation

    The parking entrance is on the building north side, and can be accessed from two locations.

    Telecommunications

    The telecommunication system in the building starts on the P-5 level of the parking garage in the main telephone service entrance room and travels horizontally to the center of the building.
