AE 481W/482 Course Reflection

Senior Thesis, as expected, was a long and enduring process. AE 481W and 482 required much work and effort. Coming into senior thesis, having worked at Altantic Engineering Services this summer, I felt confident in my knowledge of architectural engineering. However, even though I learned so much this summer, senior thesis added another world of knowledge.

Senior thesis began with a search for information. The search for building statistics was just the start. After gathering any and all information about the Upper Campus Housing Project I began to work on my techincal assignments. The technical assignments, although lengthy, allowed for me to practice the skills that I would be needing in the spring semester. Each aspect of the structural design of the building was touched on. The spring semester proved to be even more than expected. The redesign of the structural system for my building proved to be more difficult that I had thought. However, with the help of Dr. Hanagan and some fellow students, I was able to successfully redesign the Upper Campus Housing Project to a two-way flat-plate system.

AE 481W and AE 482 both required a lot of time and effort and my part. However, all the work payed off because now I have more confidence in my knowledge of architectural engineering and all that the subject entails. I will now use the knowledge that I have gained from these two courses to go out into the work force and hopefully contribute to the industry in some way.

CPEP & Discussion Board Reflection

The CPEP websites are a good contribution to senior thesis because they allow the world to view the work that we have spent so much time on over the last two semesters. It is important to be able to view previous student's work to help current students accomplish thesis goals. The CPEP websites also provide a way for us to do this. However, being a college student that only uses her computer for basic tasks I have no knowledge of website design. Working on my website turned out to be more work for me than some others because of this fact. Therefore, I think the website provides us with all the knowledge we need to complete senior thesis, but I had some trouble learning how to do it.
