Nate's Bio Sketch

Nathan Tadhg Patrick

Nate is a fifth-year student at The Pennsylvania State University working towards his integrated Bachelor and Master of Architectural Engineering degrees with an emphasis in the mechanical option. He intends to graduate with both degrees in December 2006.

In addition to his studies, Nate is involved with many on-campus organizations. He is the President of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers) for the Penn State Student Branch. He served as the webmaster last year and was selected as the recipient of the Reuben Trane Scholarship, a two-year national award. Becoming a member of Engineers for a Sustainable World this year, Nate is a team member working on the Nueva Esperanza, El Salvador computer building cooling system project. Last year, he received the CUH2A Outstanding Performance in Mechanical in the 4th year of Architectural Engineering Class Award. He served as the Vice President of the Student Society of Architectural Engineers. He was selected to join the Pennsylvania Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honors Society and the Architectural Engineering Honors Society, Phi Alpha Epsilon. Nate also serves as an AE Envoy for the Penn State Architectural Engineering Department.

Nate gained much experience in engineering design during the past two summers working for an MEP engineering firm and a mechanical contractor. Nate first gained some Architectural Engineering design experience while working as an intern for H.F. Lenz, Co. in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. This past summer he worked as a mechanical building systems intern on the engineering design team for Southland Industries, Inc. in Sterling, Virginia. In addition to many other tasks, Nate designed the finned tube radiators, hot water, chilled water, and blended chilled water piping systems for the District of Columbia Superior Courthouse project.

Nate has many aspirations and future plans for his life. Professionally, he wishes to further his experiences outside the classroom through a summer internship before his eleventh and final semester of studies. After his fall graduation, Nate wants to continue to learn and develop his engineering skills, as well as obtain his professional engineer's license.
