David W. Lee

David was born in South Korea, and there he was educated until the age of ten.  Since the age of ten, David and his family settled down in a small Philadelphia suburb called Havertown.  In the fall of 2002, David entered The Pennsylvania State University with a lot of uncertainties.  With the love of woodworking and background in drafting, David was tentatively drawn to architectural engineering.  However the decision solidified after viewing a documentary on Samuel “Sambo” Mockbee.  In the documentary Sambo, an architect, dedicated his life to providing shelter for the impoverished rural residents in America.  Sambo would use junkyard material such as tires and windshields to construct shelter for the poor.

Currently David is in his last year of the architectural engineering program focusing on the structural option.  Serving others through affordable building design and material led to structural option which has blurred in recent years.  Nevertheless a great longing to serve the needs of poor drives David’s life.  Engineers are stereotyped to be mechanical, emotionless, and very detached.  One thing for sure, David is looking to defy the stereotype and bring inspiration and hope through his engineering work.David was born in South Korea, and there he was educated until the age of ten.
