Erik R. Shearer

Growing up in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Erik chose to enroll in Penn State’s Architectural Engineering program due to its perfect integration of his interests in architecture, arts, and math.   Currently, he is in his fifth year in the program, focusing on mechanical design, and he plans to graduate with both a Bachelor and a Master of Architectural Engineering at the close of the spring 2007 semester.

Throughout his time at Penn State, Erik has excelled academically, proving his dedication and work ethic by taking on additional course work outside of the classroom and consistently making the Dean’s List.  A student in the Schreyer’s Honors College, Erik is also involved in Penn State’s student chapter of ASHRAE, the Student Society of Engineers, and Phi Alpha Epsilon, the Architectural Engineering Honor Society.  He has also been recognized for his efforts in the classroom, having been awarded the King Family Trustee Scholarship, the SmithGroup Scholarship, and the Strawbridge Trustee Scholarship.  Still, Erik manages to find time for activities outside the classroom; he is active in many intramural sports and enjoys running in his free time.

Erik has recently completed an internship with Burdette, Koehler, Murphy, and Associates, Inc., an MEP consulting firm based in Baltimore, MD, where he has also accepted an offer for full time employment following his graduation.  While there, he gained invaluable experience and knowledge that he plans to put to use in the classroom during his final semesters at college.  He is excited to enter the profession as a highly qualified college graduate, and he plans to pursue his Professional Engineer’s license as well as LEED certification over the course of the next several years.
