Technical Assignments

Proposal

The Lighting Proposal memo contains a brief description of each of the four spaces chosen for redesign during thesis.

Lighting Proposal Memo

Technical Assignment 1

The first technical assignment involved an analysis of the existing lighting conditions in The School of Forest Resources Building. A critique of the lighting conditions in the four spaces chosen for redesign was performed. The guidelines for examination were based on the IESNA 9th Edition Lighting Handbook Design Guide as well as the ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 Standard. The executive summary and the first edition of the report are linked below.

Technical Assignment 2

The second technical assignment involved an analysis of the existing electrical systems in The School of Forest Resources Building. A simplified one-line diagram of the system is included and documents the paths of all major circuits. Equipment such as panelboards, transformers, and overcurrent protection devices are described in a narrative. The bulk of the assignment includes a calculation of the building loads based on the lighting and electrical systems. A total building demand load was calculated floor by floor to size the building feeders and compare them to the actual installed feeders.

Technical Assignment 3

The third technical assignment is a schematic design proposal for the lighting systems in the four spaces chosen for redesign. An initial presentation was given to my faculty advisor. A revised presentation was presented to lighting designers at Lutron. Feedback was given during the presentation that will help improve the designs. An executive summary, both versions of the report, and a list of designer comments are linked below.
