Julie's Bio
Julie Thorpe is a fifth year student in Architectural Engineering at The
Pennsylvania State University. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor and
Master of Architectural Engineering degrees, specializing in Building Mechanical
System Design and intends to graduate in December 2006. This past summer
she had an internship that provided her valuable work experience within
the building industry. She worked for Jacobs Facilities, Inc. in Arlington,
Virginia primarily working on various mechanical systems design for airports
across the country and a United States Embassy in Eastern Europe.
During her free time, Julie is involved with many activities within the Architectural Engineering Department and Penn State University. She is currently teaching practicums for the Introduction to Acoustics class and the Introduction to Environmental Controls, and has also taught Introduction to Building Mechanical Systems. Teaching these classes is one of her favorite responsibilities because it allows her to give back to the department as well as establish relationships with the younger students. She is also Vice President of the Student Society of Architectural Engineers which is a student branch of the Architectural Engineering Institute. Also, Julie has held the positions of Vice President, THON Chairperson, and Pledge Coordinator for her service sorority Kappa Phi. One of her most rewarding activities continues to be her work with THON, a non-profit organization that annually raises approximately $4 Million dollars for the fight against pediatric cancer. Following graduation, Julie intends to pursue a career as a mechanical design engineer and hopes to obtain her license as a professional engineer.
