Welcome to Joseph's AE Senior Thesis e-Portfolio

From the time he was a young child, Joseph enjoyed testing the principles of structural design, whether building with Legos® or exploring the structural integrity of snow and earth. In his time at Hauppauge High School he excelled in math and science and also earned varsity letters in both soccer and lacrosse. Joseph developed a passion for drawing and architectural forms. It was the combination of these as well as its outstanding reputation that drew Joseph to Penn State’s Architectural Engineering program.
The Architectural Engineering program has allowed Joseph to gain a full and in depth knowledge of structural system design as well as an understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, architecture and construction management. He has used the opportunities offered to gain knowledge in the fields of building forensics and envelope systems.
In his two years interning at GMS.LLP in New York City Joseph has gained invaluable experience in steel, concrete and wood on both large and small scale projects. This past year Joseph was given the opportunity to oversee a number of renovation projects in which he did the design work, detailing and coordination with the Architect and Mechanical Engineer. He also worked as part of the project team on a variety of larger scale projects including a 40+ story high rise condominium.
When Joseph is not working or studying he is participating in a variety of clubs including the Penn State Chapter of SEA and Phi Alpha Epsilon where he holds positions as Secretary and Pledge Master, respectively. Joseph also loves to maintain an active lifestyle and plays both intramural soccer and flag football.
Joseph Mugford is currently in his fifth year of study in the structural option of the ABET accredited Architectural Engineering program at Penn State. He is finishing an integrated Bachelors and Masters Degree in Architectural Engineering and plans to graduate in August of 2007.
Joseph successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination in April of 2006. After graduation he plans to implement what he has gained from his experiences and pursue a Professional Engineering license. Joe looks forward to developing his skills and becoming a well respected structural design professional.
