Maggie's Biography

From the time she was a little girl, Maggie has always been a Nittany Lion. Attending football games with her family since the age of 4 was part of growing up. When it came time to decide on where to go to college, she found herself right back on the very first campus she stepped foot on. It was the combination of Penn State’s reputation for academic excellence, world renowned College of Engineering and school pride that set the university apart from others when making her final choice.

Maggie spent a lot of time with her father, Bill, in New York City growing up, and always admired the different skyscrapers that formed the skyline of Manhattan. She admired them so much that Bill suggested she think about architecture as a possible future career. Her mom, Donna, pointed out her strong background in math and science and thought she might be interested in architectural engineering. The tragic events of September 11, 2001 left Maggie in disbelief, but made it clear that architectural engineering was the focus the would pursue in college. She hopes to one day work with blast-resistant technology, making our buildings stronger and more resilient.

Maggie has spent the last two summers as an intern in southern California. This past summer she monitored vibrations on structures caused by the pile driving on construction sites. As a result of this job she gained invaluable knowledge and experience out in the field. At the end of her internship she was presented with the “Bravo” award by MACTEC engineering for earning the company over $30,000 in revenue.

Maggie leads a very active lifestyle when she’s outside the classroom. She is a member of the Penn State Women’s Club Basketball Team, and enjoys long runs around campus as well as participating in IM sports such as flag football, soccer, and volleyball. She is a die hard sports fanatic, and you can find her glued to the TV watching every college football and basketball game that she can.

Maggie is currently in her 5th year of the Architectural Engineering program and plans to graduate in May 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in the ABET accredited program. She hopes to find work in the structural engineering field upon graduation.
