AE 481W/482 Course Reflection

The fall semester coursework for 481W provided an in depth study of the Wesley A. Brown Field House. Studying many of the different aspects of the construction project gave me the opportunity to use knowledge and skills that I have developed here in Penn State University’s Architectural Engineering program. This coursework also demonstrated the relevance and usefulness of the material covered in the Architectural Engineering program in the real world. The fall semester coursework has strengthened my confidence that I have the knowledge and skills to become a successful industry member.

AE 482 afforded a much different experience than AE 481W. AE 482 provides a learning experience that gives a student the freedom to explore and research new ideas and techniques. This coursework does not only draw upon past learning and experience, but it further develops knowledge and skills that will be used in the future. The PACE Roundtable event helped me collect industry concerns and thoughts that could be applied to my construction project. Through meetings with classmates and advisors, the concerns and thoughts became areas of focus for my final paper.

AE 481W/AE 482 provides a highly effective and unique learning experience. This experience draws upon knowledge learned in class, while also developing new skills for the future. The AE Senior Thesis project would not be possible without the tireless effort the Architectural Engineering staff.

CPEP & Discussion Board Reflection

The CPEP and Discussion Board were very important tools that aided the Senior Thesis project. Although I had trouble with the technology, the CPEP was useful in the organization and submitting of assignments. It gave students the opportunity to share with their peers. The sharing helped promoted collaboration, which in turn strengthened many students’ reports.

The Discussion Board was a very useful tool in connecting the students to industry members. It was an outlet for questions that many did not seem to have an answer for. Although only a digital form of communication, it also helped start business relationships with possible employers. The Discussion Board also helped demonstrate the industry’s dedication to the Penn State Architectural Engineering program.
