Michael Spear is in his 5th year of the integrated Bachelor/Master of Architectural Engineering program at Penn State University (PSU), focusing on structural engineering. He will be graduating in three semesters; after four hard years and with the start of thesis, the end is in sight. While enriching himself in the AE program, Michael became a member of Phi Alpha Epsilon Architectural Engineering Honors Society, and he was awarded the Gladys M. Baird Memorial Scholarship.
Michael has been very busy at PSU both inside and outside of the AE program. Until recently, he was a Resident Assistant in the Schreyer Honors College (SHC). Michael found this experience to be extremely enriching; at the end of his two years, he was inducted into the National Residence Hall Honorary. Michael has always been challenging himself with new activities at PSU. Some of these activities have included THON, Habitat for Humanity, and Relay for Life. He is also an avid exerciser, intramural sport warrior, and has recently taken up fly fishing.
Each of his past summers has brought Michael industry experience. This past summer, Michael worked for the structural engineering department at RTKL & Associates in Baltimore, gaining valuable office design experience. Michael also worked for PENNDOT in Harrisburg, where he obtained important field practice while overseeing the construction of a small concrete bridge. Working for Harmon Inc, as a project management intern, was Michael's introduction to the construction industry.
Michael looks forward to the coming year as a challenging opportunity allowing him to further enhance his educational experience here at PSU. |
