THESIS PROPOSAL

Depth Work: Structural

The structural work for this proposal will be done by making a spatial analysis of the floor layout and proposing a new column layout to allow for more options as to which floor system to use for the building. The existing building layout only makes a two-way flat plate slab a viable solution. This analysis will open up more options for a floor system which could possibly save time or money for the building's overall project cost.

Breadth Work A: Construction Management

By moving the columns of the building, the footings for the foundation will also have to be moved. This will allow for an analysis of a different foundation system which will be run through estimating and scheduling analyses to determine if a viable alternative is possible.

Breadth Work B: Mechanical

Another issue with re-positioning the columns of the building is the need to inspect the routing of the mechanical ductwork to determine whether or not the ductwork paths need to be re-routed. If the mechanical ductwork needs to be moved, a schematic will be drawn up and compared to the new column layout to make sure the new column positions does not affect the ductwork paths.
