THESIS PROPOSAL

Thesis Proposal - December 12, 2005

Depth Work: Structural

The purpose of this thesis is to design a new structural system in an effort to determine a more economical approach. The new system will be comprised of load bearing masonry walls, reinforced masonry shear walls, and precast hollow core planks.

Breadth Work: Construction Management

The first breadth topic will be to perform a cost analysis of the selected alternate system. It will then be compared to the existing system to determine the economic impact of the new system. This will be performed using RS Means and will include initial cost, constructibililty, and long term costs.

Breadth Work: LEED Certification

The second breadth topic will be to determine possible design and construction chnages that would allow this building to reach LEED Certification. In order to be certified, 26 out of a possible 69 points must be attained on the LEED checklist. An in depth study of one category will also be performed.
