AE 481W/482 Course Reflection
The first semester of my 5th year thesis experience involved the course AE 481W. This course prepared me for the second semester by helping me become familiar with my building and understanding how the structure works. Each technical assignment showed what my strengths and weaknesses were and allowed me to make decisions for issues I have only had minimal practice with.
AE 482 was the course that our thesis was actually created. This course gives a student control over their own schedule, teaching us how to manage our time and possibly learning a lesson when certain aspects do not go as planned. AE 482 could not have taken place without AE 481W, but this course was a far better preparation for me. I learned when to make my own choices or when to go to a supervisor. I learned that you may believe you have plenty of time to finish everything you set out to do, but you have to allow for mistakes to occur. I learned the importance of presenting complete information in a professional manner that will allow someone to follow what it is you have done without them reviewing more material. Overall, this experience has made me realize how much I have yet to learn; but I'm prepared for the real world.
CPEP/Discusion Board Reflection
The involvement of a CPEP, Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio, allowed easier communication between students and their consultants, an organized presentation for professionals, families, and other students to view, and a record of my accomplishment.
Having a creative outlet in a very technical course was one part that I loved about thesis. I did not have much experience with websites in the past, but I believe I have made an appealing website for one of the most important aspects of my life right now.
I did not take part in the discussion board in either semester, but I have read the posts when I have a question that I think could be answered from other students inquiries. My thesis consultant and AE advisor both answered many questions for me and fellow students were great sources of information. The discussion board did help a lot of students, so it should be a continued part of thesis.
