TECHNICAL ASSIGNMENTS

Technical Assignment #1.......................................October 6, 2004

Executive Summary
Structural Concepts/Structural Existing Conditions Report

This report contains a breakdown of the structural components of The Helena. Included are a description of the building's overall details and architecture, the codes and standards used to design the building, and calculations for the gravity force resisting system and lateral force resisting system. An appendix of spreadsheets is supplied to help supplement the calculations.

Technical Assignment #2.......................................October 27, 2004

Executive Summary
Pro-Con Structural Study of Alternate Floor Systems

This report contains a study and comparison of four different alternative floor systems for The Helena. These systems were compared to each other as well as the existing system to determine which was the most suitable system for The Helena. At the end of this report is a summary of the findings which determine whether any of the systems considered justify further investigation.

Technical Assignment #3.......................................November 15, 2004

Executive Summary
Lateral System Analysis and Confirmation Design

This report contains a summary and analysis of the lateral bracing system used in The Helena. This building used reinforced concrete shear walls as a lateral resisting system. The deflection for the walls was analyzed and compared to that of the allowable drift for the building. All forces used in the analysis were taken from Technical Assignment #1.
