Reflection

ABET Survey

AE 481W and AE 482 are designed so that each fifth architectural engineering student can move through the final thesis minimizing any troubles or hindrances. Each class is scheduled in different semester so the whole thesis process can be performed within a year. When I first got involved in AE 481W class I was little bit out of pace, but I got on the track eventually. It could be easier for 4th year students to be ready for AE 481W if they were told how important the issues are beforehand.

AE 482 is the continuation of thesis work done from AE 481W. While AE 481W focuses on students to become familiar with their buildings with building statistics and technical reports, AE 482 is about getting deep into your building and researching what each student has picked for their depth analysis. One thing that AE 482 teaches you is that there is no submission or deadlines for each work students perform. It is totally up to students that they schedule for the whole semester how they are going to be working on their thesis. It is such a good program for students to be ready for real world after the graduation. Some, including myself, could have been troubled because of not using your time well for preparing, but you eventually learn from that mistakes and become more mature.

CPEP websites were very helpful to all fifth year students who were in participant of this year’s thesis. The websites let each student to keep up with current technology and make them to express their thesis report into web designing. By posting your work to websites, students can learn basic skills on creating a website. I was very happy that I was able to learn those skills through out the entire project. Also, by accessing to current students’ CPEP websites or alumni’s, I gathered many good information and skills. I hope my CPEP website would help following fifth year students in developing their thesis next year.

Discussion board played a big role for students to gather information. You face tons of questions when dealing with each analysis, and discussion board was the quickest way to get your answers when needed. Not only you get one answer, but variety of answers so you can compare each answer based on your knowledge of the matter. In my opinion, the discussion board also allowed the fifth year students and faculties to become more close to each other. I hope the AE department keeps developing the idea of discussion board for future reference.
