Course Reflection

The 5th year senior thesis consists of AE 481W and AE 482, two courses that take you through a preliminary analysis and then redesign of your senior thesis building. The fall semester consisted of three technical assignments that help the student gain an understanding and knowledge of the systems present within their building. The fall semester work was incredibly helpful in learning about your building and becoming comfortable enough to culminate the semester with a proposal for you redesign on the building.

The spring semester course work for AE 482 culminates in a 15 minute presentation to the faculty jury presenting the findings of the redesign. The biggest challenge of the spring semester work is translating the knowledge gained in class work to the big picture of an entire building as opposed to a small or simplified portion of a building. Industry professionals are extremely helpful in answering questions regarding designing an entire system. I think my work this year has given me a solid foundation to start my professional career as an engineer.

CPEP& Discussion Board Reflection

The CPEP website was very easy to use thanks to the template form that it was designed with. I do not have a great deal of website making experience and the CPEP process proved to be simple and easy to use for a novice such as myself. There was enough flexibility for those students with more experience to shape and mold the website to their individual tastes.

Although I never used the discussion board myself, I received the questions and answers provided by others. The discussion board seems to be extremely helpful to get in contact with industry professionals. The members of the discussion board were quick to respond with helpful information. I think the discussion board is a valuable tool for the senior thesis program.
