Thesis Abstract

Executive Summary

Paseo Caribe Condominum Tower and Parking Garage Complex is a a residental development in the busy tourist area of Condado, Puerto Rico. The building lays on the San Juan Bay inlet and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Fourteen stories, containing 46 luxury aparments and 6 penthouses sit on top of 10 stories of public and private parking. The building is made out of cast in place concrete. It has a two way post tensioned slab system that allowed for 8" floor thickness. The lateral resisting system consists of a series of twenty four 1' thick reinforced shearwalls that extend from the foundation through the parking garage into the towers. The project is phase III of a $280 million dollar project to expand on San Juan's tourist area. The project encompasses the addition of villas for the Hilton Hotel, a entertainment center housing a 180,000 sqft casino, 7 state of the art theather halls, and many restaurant space. Finally, a "promenade" will serve to provide access from the complex to the old city of San Juan for pedestrians and cyclists.
