AE 481W/482 Course Reflection

I believe that Thesis is a valuable experience in the transition from college to becoming a professional. I have gained so much knowledge this past semester from working with my advisors and the faculty to collaborating with my fellow AE students. I have developed my skills in communicating and performing research. Also, I was able to learn in-depth about a topic that has brought a new level of interest in my studies of structural design. I really value the experienced obtained in various structural components including shear wall, coupled beams, and column detaling requirements for Concrete Structures in High Seismic Zones.

Another valuable assest from this course is that it allows for the students to be creative in their design. At this early stage in our carrers, seldom times will we be allowed to pick and develope a complete system (or several) for a building. This is the time to learn what are the issues are involved with different systems and what might be the controlling case. Also, the program forces the students to become familiar with atleast one or two software programs for design/analysis. This is valueable for both the students and companies in the sector.

In conclusion, even when this was one of the hardest courses I have had in my college experience now that I look back I believe that it is one of the most valuables and challenging. I certainly enjoyed it. Thank you.

CPEP & Discussion Board Reflection

The discussion board is a great asset. I am very thankful to all the consultants for helping us by answering our questions. It is rewarding to know that there are so many knowledgable people inthe field and most importantly, that they are willing to help. The discussion board allowed me to think about how to properly formulate questions and how to explain a situation logically. I also believe that by having the experience with the discussion board I will be more open to asking questions when I start working in a firm.

The CPEP website is a good tool to keep all the material organized and accesible. It can be intimidating for someone that does not have a lot of experience with the process but the deparment did a very good job at providing templates that are easily workable for anyone! It was good to know that I could access any of my files or reports from any computer and show my family and friends what I was working on.
