AE 481W/482 Course Reflection

AE 481/482 was definitely a positive learning experience. I feel that analyzing the building for an entire semester prior to changing any of the systems really allows a student to gain an understanding of how the building was designed and is truly functioning. After becoming familiar with the building the ability to take the concepts learned in previous classes and apply them to a building allows a student to see not just how one system change or alteration can change the design or save money, but provides the opportunity to learn how that one change can have an effect on almost every system of the building. Having the freedom to choose what type of redesign a student will perform was also a very positive aspect of AE 482. This allowed students to focus on a particular system or topic area where he or she was most interested in order to gain a further understanding of it could actually be implemented into a building.

CPEP & Discussion Board Reflection

The CPEP website was yet another unique aspect of the senior thesis course work. Being able to post assignments for industry professionals to look at and comment on provided for easier communication between the students and professionals. The discussion board was a very valuable tool. It was a great help throughout the design process to know where to go to look for answers to questions. Posting a question to the discussion board would usually result in an answer or a contact to find the answer in less than a day, rather than spending hours upon hours not being able to make progress.
