Biography
Kyle Macht Ever since Kyle Macht was 5 he knew he would be an engineer, however he thought it would be a mechanical engineer designing cars and robots. He was also born with architecture engraved into his brain because of his father being an architect, running his own firm, Paul Macht Architects, who specializes in environmental sensitive design. Once sophomore year of high school hit, Kyle started to become passionate about buildings not only the way they performed or worked but how they looked as well. He also became passionate about the environment. Things finally switched for him in sophomore year of college when he realized he wanted design and build building, robots and cars, but was not willing to give up buildings the most. He switched his major from Mechanical Engineering to Architectural Engineering, to gain knowledge of how buildings actually work and interact with the occupants and their surroundings. Kyle is also looking to pursue a graduate degree in architecture to acquire a license. Kyle Macht is now his 5th year of the integrated Bachelor of Architectural Engineering / Master of Architectural Engineering program at The Pennsylvania State University. His focus is in Construction management and is also pursuing a housing certificate through the Civil Engineering Department. He plans to graduate in May 2009. Kyle Macht has been a member of the Penn State solar decathlon team since spring 2006, which is engaged in an international competition sponsored by The U.S. Department of Energy. “Twenty teams have been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to compete in the 2007 Solar Decathlon. The teams, from colleges and universities around the globe, participate in an unparalleled solar competition to design, build, and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered home. In fall 2007, the teams transport their solar houses to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., where they form a solar village. The teams compete in 10 contests to determine an overall winner. Using only energy from the sun, the teams generate enough electricity to run a modern household. With an eye on energy efficiency, the students carefully choose the systems, products, and appliances used in their houses.” (www.solardecathlon.org) To learn more go to www.solar.psu.edu Penn State has submitted a proposal for the 2009 Solar Decathlon Competition.
